Faculty of Economics
A brief history
The Institute of Economics was established
on 1 January 2001 with four departments: Business Economics, Economics,
Management and Tourism. In May 2001 the International Economics
Department was formed, followed in July by the Finance Department. In
2002 the Accounting and Controlling Department came into being. As a
result the Institute, which turned into a Faculty in September 2003,
presently consists of seven departments.
The offered graduate programs are the
following: Economics (college and university level, supplementary),
Engineering Management, Tourism (full time, correspondence) and Human
Resource Management (full time, correspondence).
Within the School of Economics the main aim
is to train experts who are able to recognize economic problems, to
analize and to direct economic activities through modern
organization-managerial, financial, marketing and entrepreneurship
knowledge.
The Engineering Management program is a
response to the national and international needs which demand
professionals able to understand and to control companies including
social- and technical systems, and to integrate different areas.
Students participating in the engineering management program study
technology, economics and management. Graduates speak two foreign
languages and meet the requirements of national and international
businesses. They are able to work under the synergy of economical,
environmental, organizational and social influences, their knowledge is
a good base to start their own business.
The School of Human Ressource Manager
trains specialists who can implement tasks related to the optimal
management of the human ressource potential of employees and leaders.
The Tourism program gives the students
opportunities for in-depth analysis of tourism in a number of different
economic, social, technological and environmental contexts within a
broad structure of management and business techniques and principles.
The courses of the program provide students with a high level of
intellectual challenge as well as opportunities for gaining practical,
industry related experience. At the School of Tourism the emphasis is
laid on meeting the requirements of the new trends, sustainable tourism
development, ecotourism and heritage tourism products. In the near
future the Department intends to develop the Bachelor program into a
Master program, and to extend the co-operation with other Hungarian and
foreign universities in order to become the regional centre for studies
in tourism.
The main aim is to train experts who are
able to put to work their scientific knowledge about human resource
management to work in the EU. The specialists possessing this degree can
work as managers and consultants.
The School of Catering and Hotel trains
specialists for the industrie of tourism. The regional needs, with
special focus on the area of Lake Balaton, assure the background of the
practical training as well as of the future employment.

Scientific research
The research activity involves several
domains, from the analysis of macroeconomic phenomena and economic
issues of enterprise management to the study of private entrepreneurship.
The research activity is mainly carried out within international
co-operations. Fields of research: Issues in the restructuring of
company ownership; The accumulation and dissemination of business
knowledge; Industry and competition policy; The theory and practice of
monetary markets; Company finance; European Integration; Application of
modern information and communication technologies; Empirical research in
company economics; Company cost analysis; Marketing; Economic and
organisational issues of tourism; Company strategy and culture; The
management of the functional domains of the enterprise (production,
maintenance, logistics, quality, human resource).
International Relations
The international relations of the faculty
are extensive and also include North-American and Western-European
Universities. Besides the research cooperation, these relations assist
student and staff mobility as well. At present several students of the
faculty study abroad in the framework of the Erasmus program. In
addition we host French, German and Finnish incoming students. |
